Opinions Wanted On 400E / Late W124 Soundsystem Replacement

Hi all,

Recently some of my stock speakers in my '92 400E have blown out. My current setup is a aftermarket CD head unit that drives stock speakers, being the 10 speaker setup, 2 dash, 2 door subs, and 6 rear deck (including the tweeters). When I purchased the car it already had an aftermarket tape head unit in it with the speakers rewired to be driven off the head unit. The front dash and door subs are wired together to be driven off the front channels and the rear speakers are on the rear channels.

So far this setup has worked fine, but I do have some questions about it relating to the load on the amp in the head unit. If the stock speaker are all 2 ohm, and given the way the front speakers are wired does that mean that the front channels are being driven @ 1 ohm? The head unit's specs state that the impedance should be between 4-8 ohms, I would think the way it's been wired with the stock speakers would put to much stress on the amp, but so far no issues, and it's been years.

When I replace the speakers I plan on using Infinity Kappa's which are 2 ohm speakers, I'm going to rewire the setup so that the dash and rear deck speakers run off the front channel and the door subs run off the rear, this should work since it's identical to the current setup in ohms. I'm going to leave the subs in the door stock since they work well and would be a hassle to replace, and I'd like to keep them in separate channels from the other speakers.

It seems as if it should work out well...
