2006 cl500 & homelink garage door opener

even though there are threads dealing with this issue, i care to post this.

here is an issue that is confusing me. i was trying to program the homelink mirror system to operate my garage door today. oddly, it couldn't communicate with an overhead door rolling code system. it responded just as did the homelink mirror system in my 1997 S500. a problem that was eventually solved by a mirror replacement. because the 1997 mirror/homelink didn't recognize rolling codes.

now i could understand the 1997's problem. but surely by 2006 benz had rolling code technology accommodated[at least that is what the owner's manual says]. and i see that the owner's manual says that they think that they do. but i think either that it doesn't or that there is some other problem. all i know is this.....

a. by the lights, i successfully erased all prior memories.

b. by the lights, the mirror accepted the input from my "functional" hand held remote from my e320cab.

c. but, it could not communicate with the rolling code receiver in the overhead door unit.

i tried all 3 buttons. off and on all sunday afternoon....nada.

this is exactly what i experienced with the original mirror/homelink system in the 1997 s500. which was not resolved until the mirror was replaced.

i didn't have a problem programming the "new mirror" s500 in 2003, solo. i cannot see why i should have any problem programming this cl500 solo, now.

but, i am. the overhead door receiver doesn't accept the signal from this mirror.

the mirror in this car should be under a warranty. should the mirror be replaced so as to gain this functionality? a functionality that m-b says is a feature of the car.

Yes, if you can't train the garage door to operate from the sender it should be covered under warranty.

you seem to know your stuff.

i acquired this cl500 from an autonation dealership. which acquired the franchise from a private owner.

then proceeded to drive off all the talented invididuals that i had known and worked with since that dealership opened in 1976[i think i was the first customer].

those talented individuals now work for another dealership. and i drove there today to visit with them about cpo requirements[as well as entrust another benz of mine to them for their very sophisticated alignment mechanism].

we discussed the items that their cpo inspection missed. the mirror was one, but we surmised that would have been a tough one to have identified unless the dealership had garage door mechanism[they didn't].

the aspect of this cpo cl500 that intrigued them was that the other m-b dealer missed the fact that the o.e. spec tires had been replaced by runflats. in their opinion, under the cpo program, that dealer owed me non-runflat tires.

that would please me since i hate run-flats.

what do you think?

all ears.

My 2001 ML320 was able to be set to open our garage door with rolling codes, but there is a procedure for setting up the opener - you must press the button on the opener motor unit itself at the same time you push the button in the vehicle - it requires two people to do it, plus a ladder to reach the button on the opener. It does work fine once set.

The problem I have is that the vehicle won't operate our driveway gate, which has a 433mhz remote receiver. It is from Italy, and I suspect requires a vehicle unit designed for European openers. If your car was built for the European market it may have the wrong frequency range unit installed.

The HomeLink on my 07 and 01 work just fine, as did the HomeLink on a 99 ML I formerly owned.

Even though the gate was a simple DIP switch configuration, I had to aim the gate remote to the HomeLink module to activate.

First time coding is fun stuff...climb ladder, puch button on garage, descend ladder push button on mirror, get out of vehicle, look at LED on garage unit, etc...

of course, i have done all of this. and more.

the conclusion is that the mirror homelink cannot send out an accurate signal. warranty mirror replacement.
