95 C280, faulty fuel gage

the car has about 220k, and my fuel gage is starting to act up. Sometimes it showes the correct amount and then other times it will show it being empty. Starting to happen more and more frequently.
Could this be a problem with the asendig unit?
The car has been very reliable up to now, but this is something I will need to address soon.
Any advice on how to fix this problem would be greatly apreciated.
Thank You!
Shawn

On the 1994-1995 cars there is a stop pin for the gauge pointers at the "low" reading. The needles and the pins develop a sticky substance that causes the needles to stick at the low reading. Try removing the cluster, split it apart and clean the needles and pins with alcohol on a q-tip.
