E500 trunk opens half way and stops

W211 E500 When the open button is pressed the trunk lid opens half way and stops. The red light on the trunk lid edge goes off at the same time. The lid can then be opened manually the rest of the way, but since the red closing assist light is off it also has to be closed manually. The trunk illumination light stopped working at the same time that this problem started. I looked but couldn't find a fuse box in the trunk. It seems that it should be something really simple, but you can never tell.

This is my sister's car and I don't know much about it. Any clues? Thanks.

Not familiar with the E500, but suspect the fuse box is under the hood ... driver's side. Review the card in the fuse box lid for a circuit relating to the trunk closing assist. There may be a second fuse box near the battery under the passenger side rear seat. Also, check the Owner's Manual.

If the car is equipped with the ELectronic Trunk Closer (red button on lower inside lip of trunk to close the trunk); these cars were equipped with a limiter, which limited the height of the opening trunk lid, in cases where you might have a low ceiling. Teh trunk opening limiter is turned on and off in the settings meu, accessed via the steering wheel buttons on the left hand side.
