While i'm in there, WHAT ELSE SHOULD I RENEW /84 190E Timing Chain
I am planning putting in a timing chain/rails/tensioner in my 84 190E 2.3 automatic. I am a firm believer of going in once and replacing anything else in there that may be bad or go bad in the near future, rather than redo my labor twice. Or three times.
I may throw in a new water pump & gasket. What eles should be repaired once I'm in there??? I has around 170,000 miles on it. |
On the M103, there's a short hose from the water pump to the side of the block. If your M102 has one, check it.
Check the serpentine belt tensioner and shock. Check the various bearings along the path of the serpentine belt. Sixto 91 300SE 81 300SD |
Probably obvious:
valve stem guide seals valve cover gasket Not so: plastic oiling mechanisms (if any on early M102) Cheers, Andrew Seidel. |
No serp belt on the 84
The early motor doesnt have the serpentine belt, but there are some idle pulleys I probably should R&R.
I wasnt going to do the head yet, but maybe I should. |
