GOT TO GET RUNNING TONIGHT

Hello all,
I have a 92' 300SE which I just replaced the head gasket. Trying to get the cams aligned correctlly. I have the exhaust cam where it should be but when I tried to dial in the intake cam from the crankshaft the valves seem to be hitting the piston. So I then tried to dial in the intake cam by turning the camshaft but for some reason it dosn't look right. Can an expert provide me with some information of where I should go from here.

Here is the process I am following:
Adjusting Camshaft Basic Position :

Proceeding work

Basic position of camshaft checked. Refer to Camshaft, Engine - Testing and Inspection - Procedures

Adjusting
  1. Position crankshaft to 30°BTDC of cylinder 1 (arrow).
NOTE: At 30°BTDC of cylinder 1 the camshafts can be rotated without the valves touching the piston crowns.
  1. Remove chain tensioner (5). Refer to
  2. Remove front cover (30) and top guide rail (42).
  3. Unbolt exhaust camshaft sprocket (3).
  4. Rotate camshafts with wrench (25) 119 589 00 01 00 (WAF 27) or 104 SB9 01 01 00 (WAF 29) until the 4 mm holes in the camshaft flanges are touching top edge of cylinder head.
  5. Insert pins (1) into holes (arrows).
  6. Rotate crankshaft with wrench socket insert in direction of rotation of engine to TDC position of cylinder 1; raise timing chain for this step.
  7. Rotate camshaft adjuster by hand in direction Of rotation of camshaft to "retarded" position stop.
  8. Fit timing chain onto inlet camshaft sprocket and check whether timing chain is resting correctly against guide rail in timing case cover.
  9. Install exhaust camshaft sprocket (3) in base position of camshaft.
  10. Install front cover (30) and top guide rail (42).
  11. Install chain tensioner (5).
  12. Check basic position of camshafts.
Thanks in advance!!!
