Transmission Filler Tube Housing
I've got a leak at the base of the filler tube on my 1985 190E. Is there an O-ring down there?

Yes. Loosen the flange bolt (small hex, I think) and pull housing out, slip on new o-ring and voila! good as new (atleast mine is, good luck).

Glad you replied. Been trying to contact you regarding the R&R. The 5mm allen bolt is a PITA to remove because of the clearance between the cooling line and the exhaust shield. Did you have to remove your cooling line? I might have to in order to get enough torque out of the itty bitty allen wrench. Jeff |

Is there not room to use a 5mm allen key socket and rachet wrench?

Not sure about your car, but my AT filler tubes are clamped to the back of the engine a few inches from the top end fo the tube.

Same here, Sixto. The brackets support the filler tube so it doesn't warp at the base housing.

Good news!!!
I finally stopped the leak from the passenger side of the transmission on my 1985 190E. The filler tube O-ring was the culprit. Thanks again to all the forum members for their contributions! I had to remove the cooling line in order to get enough clearance for the 5mm hex bit socket and ratchet. Jeff |
