Ticking from the rear...

Have a noise that I cannot find the source.

Its coming from the rear diff. area, and it varies with speed. I jacked it up and there was no cracks in the boots, and there is no slack in the bearings.

Spun the wheels with both sides off the ground, and still made no noise.

I did notice my flexdisk is starting to crack. Its showing stringy stuff in some parts, so I know its time to replace it...

So, can anyone out there tell me if it may be the cause of my noise?

Sounds like you may have found the problem. Replace the flex disks and let us know how it sounds.

Is it one click per revolution, or closer to three. If one click, check your lug-bolts, and for a nail/screw/etc. in the tire.

last time that happened to me, it was a co worker who zip tied a zip tie to my driveshaft! I dont recall my very bad flex discs making noises. Course, neither did my greaseless, bootless rear axle.

Issues with the emergency brake linkage in the left rear hub can produce the same noises.

Try slightly depressing the E-brake pedal while driving to see if the clicking ceases, or changes volume...

If the flex disc is coming apart like that I'd be replacing it ASAP!!

After spending more than 6 hours under the car trying to find the source of the noise, and not being able to find the noise, I have given in and called the indy. I have an appointment Thurs morning to drop it off.

He has a new flex disc kit ready and waiting for my car. :)

Boo. Wheres the challenge in that? Actually I am going to see mine tomorrow too.

Are you running stock wheels? A lug-bolt kissing the parking brake can tick.

Been running aftermarket wheels for the last 2 years, well over 15k miles... I think it would have made this noise a while ago.

I tried slightly applying the e-brake, and no change. Also drug the brakes for a bit, no change.

You put it into neutral and it gets quieter.... When you downshift/decelerate it get louder. Also has a pretty loud thunk when it downshifts now....

Tuned out that my diff is shot....

When we disconnected the drive shaft, there was half a turn of play.... Everything else under the car looked new.

Has the car been out of your sight for any period of time? Have you loaned it to any known terrorists?

WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT?

Were they trying to drive you crazy with the weird noise or did they actually attach something to the driveshaft with the ziptie?
