Incomplete carfax?

I'm trying to check out a '91 420SEL ad in local paper.Ad says,125K mi..The last mileage shown in the carfax is @85K,that was in 2006.The last listing is a Benz dealer inventory(late in 2008),but doesn't show mileage!I assume it was a trade-in...but what do I make of the @40K over close to a 3 year period, early 2006 to late 2008)?? Any thoughts? Thanks!

When a neighbor bought an almost-new Honda Minivan (after the carcrap came up clean), and found it had been crushed between a school-bus and a line of cars, sold at auction, repaired, and sold to him, he couldn't even get his fee back because the guarantee is that they will report everything reported to them.

It is fairly common that much is missing.

Buyer beware.

All CarFaxes are "Incomplete"

The: Dealers ,Auctioneers,Etc.,Etc. figured out how to circumvent "Carfax"
within the first 4 months of it's inception!

'Somebody (A "Car Dealer") offers you a "Free Carfax" ,GaraunDamnTee the
chassis is a piece of junk!

It's not the dealers! Walk into most body shops and you'll probably see a sign on the counter (where you absolutely can't miss it) that says' something like "This repair facility does NOT report to Carfax!!!"

I always thought that accidents were reported to CARFAX from the law enforcement agencies. That explains why two separate accidents for my wife's 300SD which were reported to the police do not appear on the CARFAX for that car.
