126 seat adjust problem

Hi,

I just bought an '86 420sel and its got an odd little problem: the seats will only adjust with a door open (either passenger or driver), independently of whether the key is in or out or the ignition on. Any ideas?

Thanks

Martin

Common problem. Open the fuse box. Toward the back you'll see a small gray two pin diode. Open it and check if it is burned. If it is, replace it.

The seats are designed to only operate with either front door open or the key in the ignition!
This is not slight problem, it's the way it is!

I think they did this as a safety feature (kids pushing the buttons squishing themselves?).

You seem good to go,

You are correct about it being a safety feature, unless it doesn't work even with the ignition on. In other words, if you need to open the doors with the ignition on to adjust seats then the diode is burned.

Vinamg,
Once I saw your re-reply, I knew I must have read it wrong, so I re-read it, and sure enough! Then I saw your post it came together.

Sorry about that! :p

Great. Sounds easy - would that all car problems were like that. (I had a shop in Orange County tell me it would take 5-6 hours of diagnosis!!)

Thanks

Martin
