other things to do while headliner is being replaced

I am going to replace my headliner for my 1992 w124. anything good to do while the headliner is down, especially in terms of sunroof maintenance?

If there is enough space I'd cover the inside of the roof with Dynamat (I think it's called) sound dampener or if you're brave spray on rubber sound absorber.

If you're concerned about sunroof drains, perfect time to flush them, but if they're working properly I'd leave them alone.

Most of the sunroof stuff is not accessible from the bottom.

thanks babymog for the link. looks tedious but doable. I was a little unclear however about what you used as a replacement headliner. did you order the assembly from the dealer, just use new cloth/material, etc.? Any tips on this not in the thread?

I'm in Michigan, most headliners are in good condition here, found a perfect used one.

W 124 Headliner

I had mine (92 300E W124 113k) replaced several weeks ago by a professional upholstery shop. After I watched him doing it I'm glad that I did not try doing the job myself. However it cost me to the tune of $350.00. Good Luck.

Did you guys who did replace it do it through the front passenger door?

I did mine like that a few months back and what a MISSION!! At one stage I thought it was impossible to fit through the door! If it wasn't for the mercedes manual saying that it could be done that way I wouldn't have persisted. It took a lot of manouvering and far more flexing of the headliner than I would have liked! But it did eventually work

I did it thorough the rear doors, no flexing necessary (or should be allowed). Rotate the back corner out of one rear door, stick the front corner out of the other rear door, rotate the headliner out through the second rear door.
