560 SL wont start

A freind asked me to look at his car-He said it ran fine until 1 day it wont start. Everything was dead when I checked -removed the batterie and charged it.I checked the headlights first -and they came on-as did all the other power accessorys. When I turned the key-nothing- no sound at all from the engine compartment. After turni ng the key-all the power worked-except -now the headlight wouldnt come on. Any ideas where I should start tracing down the problem would be appreciated. It should be noted that the car has been meticulisly maintained.

Hi there,

I suggest you have the battery propperly tested (load test), some auto parts stores offer free battery/charging system tests.

If you have a multimeter, read the battery voltage and have somone try to start the engine. If voltage drops low from 12 volts when key is turned your problem is likely the battery but may also be a loose or corroded connection in the starting circuit.

Good luck with it.

My first instinct was to have the batterie tested-but due to time constraints -I did not do that. I will go back in a few days -pull the batterie out -and have it tested-thanks. uncle Ackey
