Fuchs Titan 4134 ATF backwards compatibility
 

Is it advisable (or even preferable) to do a AT fluid change on a 1999 ML 430 with the 722.6 transmission using Fuchs Titan 4134 ATF developed for the 722.9 transmission? This would result in mixing whatever is left of the original ATF 001-989-21-03-10 with the newest ATF 001-989-68-03-10.

Any problems if I do this?

Fuchs says 100% compatable with any Dexron trans fluid.

They also state for "full benefit" of this newer & better fluid, a complete flush is required.

Curious here - how does the Fuchs 4134 compare with the Fuchs 3353 product? The 3353 is also specified for the 722.9 & 722.6 and also carries Dexron III certification.

In August 2008 MBUSA followed Daimler (may 08) & stated that 3353 was no longer a valid fluid for the 722.9 series trans.

Trans fluid spec for 722.9 is 236.14 & only Fuchs 4134 & DSH (Shell Germany) 4134 is approved.

4134 is a much higher viscosity fluid with greater temp ranges & higher load range.

The Mobile ATF 134 is also an officially approved fluid by Mercedes for 236.14 specs.

The viscosity actually has not changed from 3353 to 4134. They are still around 30 cSt at 40 deg C and 6.5 cSt arond 100 deg C.

According to Fuchs...?? Mobil 134 is re-packaged Fuchs 134/4134 fluid!

Wow, learn something new every day! I wonder if the local Autozone or Advance Auto carries the Mobil version?

I've used Mobil 1 synthetic oil and really trust it. If Fuch is whats in the Mobil 134 atf & its not available here in the US then its good as I can get. I just can't find any info on Fuchs and want something I can be sure of is the very best of what I can find.
