A/C Logic

Now that the weather is getting warmer and I use the A/C more, if find myself being more and more intrigued at the way it functions to cool down the cabin. Recirculation mode kicks in and out, flaps redirect air around to different vents, fan speeds up and down, etc. Maybe I'm just easily amused, but this behavior fascinates me. :)

I did a bit of digging in the documentation I have access to (alldata & WIS) and haven't been able to find a decent description of how the A/C does what it does. Does anyone have a "detailed theory of operation" kind of document for the A/C system? I'm specifically interested in one for the W140, but would love to read anything you would be willing to share. Thanks!

Usually one only learns the complexity of MB climate control when its not working right, or at least that my case ;).

Here are some great troubleshooting articles that explain common faults and go over some basic functions of the system itself. Not W140 specific but a good read.
