Peach Parts

Wow... Have not been here for a couple of months. What's this about Peach Parts? Sounds like a title to a porn magazine. Are you guys serious?!

pawoSD 06-14-2009 12:15 AM

The name had to be changed because of the unhappy overlords over at Daimler AG in the fatherland. They did not want "mercedes" in the name of a website that someone other than themselves could make money from....so they got some evil lawyers to make it happen. And so goes the tale. It is indeed the new name....

ehopkins 06-14-2009 03:41 AM

Oh!!! So that orange brake caliper at the top of the page is suppose to be a peach!!!

Ferdman 06-14-2009 05:18 AM

ehopkins, I guess you're referring to the peach-colored rotor.

ejsharp 06-14-2009 08:48 AM

Suggestion... Open the forum for suggestions about a new name. The peachy angle and logo is a bit corny.

POS 06-14-2009 09:04 AM

There are lots of threads about the name - the general consensus is that it sucks.

CWW 06-14-2009 09:30 AM

I would've fought it. An internet discussion-board is almost certainly fair use. Would have been an expensive battle though...

Tomguy 06-14-2009 10:31 AM

It was fought. Outcome stunk and will probably have a negative impact over the whole internet given time for lawyers to act... any forum name about any car brand or model of car is now up for the same scrutiny. Mercedes lost the first time 7 years ago:
http://www.wipo.int/amc/en/domains/decisions/html/2001/d2001-0160.html
So they came back in with more money and won the 2nd time:
http://www.wipo.int/amc/en/domains/decisions/html/2008/d2008-1712.html

Arbitration. That explains things.

Wonder if there's a way to get out from under WIPO and appeal directly to an *actual* court? Arbitration clauses aren't always bulletproof.

Hilarious!!!!!

Yup, they were told by the populous during the name change that could be contrued as the theme of the site. he....he

Kestas 06-14-2009 02:25 PM

Mercedes should laud the board instead of harassing it. It is because of this board that I can afford to keep and maintain my Mercedes. Otherwise I'd have to dump the money pit and they would have one less customer.

Soon we will be getting post similar to this:

"Oh! my boy friend is so glad over me discovering this site. My recent sexual activity has been proving disappointing to say the least. He thinks I have a lubricant deficiency but I think my problem seems to lie more with ignition. My spark just isn't what it used to be. Strokes seen shorter and less rapid, especially off the line when I need it the most. Top end is simply non-existent.

Please help.

(Cream-less Peach)"

Suggestion.... Read the multitude of threads saying the same thing when this was happening, then read the rebuke by forum owner stating "all will be well".
Topic was dead a couple months ago...... {I did, however, embarrassingly tell somebody about the website last week. It was humiliating to say "Peach Parts dot com. I did make sure they knew it used to be Mercedesshop...}
BTW, I have held off mentioning the name to folks a few times simply due to the ridiculous nature of the name. Good thing though that all will be well......

Same here, I was actually going to tell someone about it, but didn't because the name would get me laughed at!

I wonder how many people pass right on by this site on google/other searches because of the name....

It does seem lately like there have been less new-users on the site....

I did a search engine search to find this site (MercedesShopforum.com) in 2007. I doubt whether I would have clicked on "peachparts.com" but that's just me. I was looking for a Mercedes-Benz Shop repair forum.....not an unknown-named parts source.

I think it was a huge mistake to change the name to a totally unrelated to Mercedes-Benz automobile name, but what do I know.

and am sure that the P-car crowd had the same issue with Pelican Parts.

but it seems to be working well and very well known and respected.

name works for me, but then again I wasn't here under the former name.

I seriously doubt I would have joined either with a name like Peachparts either.

I wonder if the webmaster would give any figures on how much new membership has dropped. My guess would be half or more.

x6 here.

But is anyone really surprised? I mean REALLY surprised? Over the last 15 years or so we've seen MB's focus shift from producing a quality product that people will pay the price for to producing a low-cost product that lends itself to being a product people buy because it implies 'status'.

Over the same period of time we've seen them become more concerned with spending untold millions on flashy ad campaigns to attract NEW customers while abandoning the core (ie returning and long-term) customers via after-sales service. Remember the ad campaign in 1987 where they called us "The Best Cared for Customer in the World?"

Bottom line: Daimler AG, MBUSA, and MB Canada just don't give a damn about the people who have owned MBs for 10, 20, or 50 years and keep coming back.

+1,000,000

This brand went from having excellent dealer service as recently as the early/mid 1990's, to being staffed by a bunch of dishonest and disrespectful vultures who treat their (soon-to-be "former") customers like utter crap. I've never had more horrendous experiences anywhere than I've had at my local MB dealer. If/when I get rid of my current MB that I've had for ages, I doubt I will be buying another one.

FWIW, BMW is just as bad. Lexus, Jaguar, Land/Range Rover, all seem to have top-notch service. But MB and BMW have really become ridiculous.

Time for those Peach Part Window Clingies:D

That more or less depends on the dealer. Our local dealer is very pleasant....and always willing to help out.

Would you have preferred something like Bercedes Menz?

TOPGUN 12-11-2009 10:29 PM

I am reluctant to pass the Peach Parts forum site to someone new to Mercedes. You have to explain to them your serious and then the reason why. The daily posts have gone down. The members should vote on new name for the site.

Let it go already!!
A "vote" isn't going to do a thing.
I met some newer members at our last GTG down this way. They came on board after the "Peach Parts" name change, so that is all they really knew. They seemed to do just fine.
Sure, we hate the name, but it isn't our site. We have no monetary investment in the thing.
Why not go worry about what type of oil folks are using.......

Realizing that this is an old thread, I think your minds are in the gutter. I've only known it as Peach Parts, the sexual implications never occurred to me. To tell you the truth I just assumed they were based in Georgia!
I mean, I'm not saying it's a good name or anything but certainly not one I'd ever be too embarrassed about to not pass it on to someone else.

Aquaticedge 12-12-2009 04:09 AM

I found this site just fine. And I dont have a problem with the name. Just makes it sound like it's based in Georgia.

I found the forum fine as well... Sites have weird names all the time, so I didn't think twice about "Peach parts". It might make a difference to uh... "older folks" who expect things to be named for what they are, but with cybersquatting and ISP, registrants and companies buying up all the "good" names, it's harder than you think to get a decent site name.

Personally, I think it's better to go for something original than to try to shoehorn a domain name together...

Hi all,

Bought a 95 e320 in mint condition last week. Just about everything works except the a/c.

A little history on it:

previous owner states she replaced the compressor last year. A/C worked for a few months, then she garaged the car for the summer, and the a/c stopped working when she started driving again in october.

When I got the car, the compressor would work for 1~3 minutes in the morning. Then the fan would just blow regular air.

I took it to a garage that does a/c service and had them charge the freon. They verified that the vacuum is still good and that there were no leaks (pressure was good, they said).

The charge did not help. Still blowing regular air.

So i took it to another place, an auto shop that specilizes in electric and a/c. These folks traced the problem to a compressor relay that was not turning on the compressor. So i had the part replaced.

The a/c worked for 3 minutes. Then it stopped again.

After 3 hours of troubleshooting, it's getting dark. So the a/c specialist gave up and asked me to come back tomorrow.

They ended up not charging me the $140 they wanted to troubleshoot and fix the problem.

So i was driving the car back, and i turn on the radio. The radio display works, but no sound came out. And the minute I turn on the radio, the buckle-up sign came on instantly, along with the interior lighting next to the buckle-up sign.

The radio eventually came back on and the buckle-up sign went away. But that really gave me a scare.

The other funny thing was, the driver side window's 1-touch open function failed as well. But resumed working after a few repeated tries.

Any ideas?

I've so far had the compressor replaced, charged the freon, and replaced the compressor relay. The mechanic told me they've confirmed the thermostate working, along with a few other a/c parts that they confirmed weren't the issue.

I'm a bit weary about bringing the car back to this auto electric place and thinking maybe i should just bite the bullet and send it to the dealership to have it looked at.

Any suggestions are most welcome!!

If the name of the site, instead of the quality of the forum remarks, is what deters you from joining or participating, I think that's good.

I prefer substance.

Unhappy people can go to another forum that's more "manly."

How about Diesel Giant? Or Schuman's?

See ya, don't let the screen door etc etc etc. :D

420benz 09-25-2013 10:24 PM

This forum was formed by two guys. Bill and Donny a while ago. I met both of them when they opened a shop about 10 miles from me. Both are from Georgia the (Peach State). That could be the reason for the name.

Mölyapina 09-26-2013 07:25 AM

I joined PeachParts. Never thought twice about the name.

If you recall... the site was orginially called MercedesShop.com. Mercedes came after the site owners and forced them to change the name.

I know ;). But I joined in 2012, so PP was all I knew for a long time. Didn't deter me from choosing it over BW.
