190E 2.6 with some kind of bearing noise between shifts?
Hello there,
My trusty 190E 2.6 auto (233,000 km) has developed a peculiar bearing noise of some kind as I accelerate up through second gear...the noise appears...2nd shifts into third noise appears...after third gear into top...not sure as wind noise is too high by that point. The transmission cooler lines look old and corroded, could they cause a noise like this? I haven't changed the serpentine belt and tensioner in probably 4 or 5 years and 75,000km or so. Car also sits each winter as I want to maintain the bodywork so the car doesn't move for half the year. Head gasket, valve guides and seals done 10,000 kms ago (noise had appeared before that). Oil pressure good, no valve tappets running dry, no clicking upon start up. Serpentine belt and tensioner? Replaced awhile ago, not sure how to tell by the sound if this is the culprit or not, the car idles fairly quietly with no squeeks/rattling noises. Water pump is original...no squealing noises of any kind. Front Flex discs? The car is running a lowered suspension and the flex discs are both 6 or so years old.... Any ideas guys? Thanks in advance, Mike
