What's under rear seats?

Hey folks!

Lifted off the rear bench seat of my 1991 300E to see if there was any spare leather material to fix a rip in another seat (there wasn't) and saw 2 black boxes. One on the passenger side and one on the driver side.

Just curious, anyone know what they are?

Nick

They record your actions so the authorities can figure out what happened after a fatal crash.

Funny!

Seriously what are they?

One is probably an amplifier for the radio speakers and the other is your central locking pump.

Central locking pump on the passenger side...this is in my 93 300E, a pic taken documenting a stereo install:

There is nothing on the driver's side in mine, so perhaps that is a factory audio amp in yours...mine reside in the trunk:

One of the black boxes is the "convenience control module" (power windows, locks, etc...) and the other is the pump for the locks.

I'm having a discussion on another forum about this. In my 260E, I have the pump on the passenger side for the locks, but on the drivers side, there is only a tiny black box with two vacuum pumps going into this. This can't be the convenience control can it? I am trying to resolve the non-working 3 out of 4 windows.

Any part numbers from these units?

Mine has a Motorola telephone below the back seat in addition to the vacuum pump.
