W124 M119 Lambda Control Inoperative?
Mates,
What the heck is the Lambda Controller, anyway? Where is it? This is the error code I get--I can't find anything about this Lambda controller anywhere. I have an oscillating idle and that error code; engine FI harness and ETA have been redone. Thanks, Kristian |

screw the Lamda term...it's an O2 sensor....Lamda is a fancy name for an O2...bullcrap.....nothing more..the Swedes made it up and where are they now?

Quote:
Lamda is an AFM measure and 1 Lamda is = to an AFM of 14.7:1 mass. Just like 14.695 PSI is =to 1 ATM. They are Engineering measures. An 02 sensor is simply an Exhaust Oxygen content measureing sensor ..and that sensors signal, [ in Voltage] simply supplies the input signal to a Lambda AFM Controller. The 02 does not change the AFM, the Controller does. So, it is a Lamda /Closed Loop system, where the Controller attempts to maintain Lamda [ 14.7 Stoich A/F mixture], using exhaust 02 content measures . Lamda is not a 'Fancy Swedish" term for an 02 sensor...and your confusion is b/c a Lamda "Sensor " is an 02 sensor, only b/c it is part of a Lamda controlled system. And a Lamda Controller is NOT an 02 sensor..it is just what it says it is ..a Lamda Controller.

[QUOTE=kristian85;2243187]Mates,

I have an oscillating idle and that error code; engine FI harness and ETA have been redone >> Well, I don't know if you have a "92 E400....or maybe a "95 420E , etc., or what..?? Model/yr. So , I will just take a stab at it being the former. That info suggest my first suspects would be a vac leak or a ruptured fuel presure regulator diaphragm. Look for vac hose leaks and then with car @ idle , take the vac hose off the FP reg and see if any petro comes out that vac port..if YES, replace the FP reg, as it is allowing un-metered fuel into the intake, causing your osc idle..just as a vac leak will do.. The Lamda Control system can't do it's job correctly with either condition. http://catalog.peachparts.com/ShopByVehicle.epc?q=1992-Mercedes--Benz-400e-Fuel--Injection&yearid=1992%40%401992&makeid=63%40%40MERCEDES+BENZ%40%40X&modelid=6258%3AMBC%7C1530%3AED%7C10000072%40%40400E&catid=240621%40%40Fuel+Injection&subcatid=240645@@Fuel+Pressure+Regulator&mode=PA

Thanks, Dalton--yours is the reply I was looking for! I suspected Lambda related to stoichiometry. It's a '95 E420. Also has recent caps, rotors, wires, and plugs.
Which vacuum hoses are suspect? I replaced the thin clear one between ignition advance module and the intake manifold when reinstalling the ETA; it was very brittle. Where is the FP regulator in this car? Thanks again-- |

ALL and ANY.. You see the pic I posted ..that is the Reg. Look at the engine. Your vac leak could even be the vac hose going to the regulator. Archieves has all that kind of info.........
