I hate noises
I got a noise coming from the center of the car at 2000 rpm's. It dosent matter what gear it's in, it just happens at 2k. The center mount and flex discs were replaced recently. Could it just be the drive shave is slightly out of line? Is there a certain angle it should be at? Or maybe I'm just thinking all wrong on this? I know it's not my exhaust. It sounds like a rattle. Any ideas?

Maybe the speedometer cable? Does it go up and down with rpm?
|
Could be the exhaust - the cats sometime start disintegrating which results in chunks of the porcelain bouncing around in the can. If you can get the car on a lift, I'd bang on the cats a little to see what it sounds like in there. Obviously, don't hit them hard enough to break them.
Here's a simple question - what kind of car is it? What year?? If it's an older diesel then the above suggestion is wrong. |
Its a 190e according to his profile....

I had the cats go bad on a Thunderbird once. It did sound like stuff rattling around under the car.

The cat is brand new, magnaflow high flow. The exhaust is changed from the cat back with 2.25 and a magnaflow muffler. It sounds really good. My car is a 190e 2.6 auto. I thought it was the exhaust before but there is no way it could rattle. It is no where near the body. The speedo cable idk about that. The speedo jumps up and down in the cold but that's it. No weird noises from that. It sounds like it's coming from the tranny but I can't tell. My girlfriend and my brother are deaf it seams like lol. They don't hear it. That's why I thought it was my driveshaft.

Fluttering heat shield or exhaust flange?

Exhaust harmonics or bad Motor mounts.
|
The motor mounts are febi, changed 1 1/2 years ago. Can I post audio files on here? I'll try to record it today. I wonder if the tranny mount is bad. I changed that at the same time as the motor mounts, but I can't remember the brand. What about the rear sub frame mounts? Would that cause that kind of noise? There the original 91 mounts, kinda dry rotted lol. They connect right there at the rear seat so the sound could travel to the center. I'm going to jack it up today and check it out. On my older post about that timing cover, I'm trying to get loctite 5900 right now. The cylinder head was tight, I check the torque specs on it.

Recommend using the black sealant that MB sealers sell for the timing chain cover, and follow the instructions exactly when reinstalling the timing chain cover so it doesn't leak. That's a job you don't want to do over anytime soon.
