M119 timing chain service
Guys,
What is an approximate price for having this service done? Dealership said $4500. Are parts really 2k? I'd guess upper guides, specialty tools ect can't run more than a grand. Michael |
A good indie should be able to do the job in 12-15 hrs & parts for $750(ish).
ONLY special too needed is to hold the chain to the cam gears. |
Thanks for the response MB-DOC!!
Yep, looking at this in more detail, I must say it might be something for me to pay an independant to do. I pride myself on my abilities, but time is a limited with little children. I did look on-line on tools. There is a guide which is supposes to allow 1 person to wrap the chain in. Option 2 would be to pull the camshafts and roll the chains in or Option 3.. get several friends and try to keep things from jumping- probably the quickest but the most taxing. Do you own the tool which makes it a 1 person job? Comment on how well it works? Michael |
www.technictool.com has the tool needed to allow for a 2 person job.
W/o that tool even 4-5 people can't hold back the pressure on the chain. |
