New leather shifter -- 300E
Like my black leather steering wheel on my 300E, the leather auto shifter is starting to flake and I would like to replace it.
Are these shifters sold aftermarket, or are they strictly a dealer-sold item, and how tough are they to replace? Thanks for any insight! ~Paul ______________________________ '91 300E "Smoke Silver", 202,000 mi |
Don't know about how to replace them, but you might consider redying it. I've done that to my steering wheel. There is a coating which does eventually flake off. If you take lacquer thinner to it, you can remove all the current coating, then apply dye from Leatherique of Color Plus.

Why not awood shifter they can be had for around $80
I put a buirlwood shifter n my car. Relatively easy to replace, get center wood console up, loosen PRND gear selector cover, loosen nut on shifter at bottom, unscrew and put the new one in revers of taking it out. I believe You can get a shaft from performance products I think, so you can use the newer 1994+ Shift knobs instead of the standard one on the car. Alon |
