Can I install a manual tranny on my 91 300te 4 matic
I found a manual trans out of a 190e inline 6 (not sure what liter) in junk yard. Do you think I can put it in my 300te 4 matic and if I could what would I have to get out of the benz in pick n pull?

Every part related to clutch operation....flywheel, shifter, linkage, pedal assembly.
Of course you will need a stick shift drive shaft, the one from the 190E won't work. |
Sounds tricky ...
I thought the auto 4-matic box had an integrated transfer box. Does any manual box have such a thing? Were any 4-matics manual?
Interesting to hear what the brainy ones have to say. RayH |
Thats what I need to know. Will the transfer case bolt up to the messing manual? I know you need a new drive shaft thats no biggy. Are the yokes the same? are the computers the same?
|
No the transfer case IS history if you replace trans..
The car would be a 2-matic |
So im guessing the transfer is integrated? I havent crawled under the car and looked yet.
|
I don't know for sure...but I would think no, you can't do that, not even close
|
Hmmmmm
To be honest, I think you'd be better off keeping/selling the 4-matic intact and getting a manual car complete.
Or maybe I'm just lazy and good at spending other people's money. RayH |
I remember the transfer case being bolted to the tail of the transmission, not compatible with the stickshift.
Removing the transfer case will also present problems such as what to do with the hole through the sump for the right half-shaft. |
