Tail Pipe 300SE

My tail pipe rotted out from the catylitic converter back. This is a dual pipe system & will cost about $1300 or more to repair. Meineke & my mechanic said I can go with a single pipe system to lower the cost of the repair. Is this an acceptable conversion in terms of system compatibility?

Yes, if they use quality parts & a 2.5" pipe that should work just fine...

I would think $250-400 for custom exhaust work.

Where are you located roughly?

Got a $400 quote for a custom wide pipe. Central Jersey.

I'd hold out for a good used OE system. There are plenty of these cars popping up used all over.

A cat on this board sent me a dash from a 300SE he's parting, if you want his contact info PM me.

the question I would ask is...how long do you intend keep the car? that would influence my decision very much...

The reason for two small pipes instead of one large is sound; higher resonance and easier to silence. If a little more noise doesn't bother you then the larger single-pipe is worth considering.

You can get the middle and rear sections from Peachparts, this site, for around $500. Pretty easy to install, I did mine, and you will need new rubber suspension rings. There is also a square section woven steel sealing ring that you also need.
