1983 123 Blower Motor stip fuse? CCU and AC stopped working....
 

Good evening all,

First let me mention: I have been reading for several days the post on blower motor issues. I have failed to fine a picture or explanation of the location of the strip fuse that applied to my car.

Next is my problem: I was driving last weekend with the AC on, and had a brief interruption in the climate control system and AC. I then pushed the buttons on the CCU and after pressing the defrost the blower and AC started to work. It only worked for a short time before stopping once again. I tied many things, but the system would not restart.

Next Step: I check several of the fuses and even replaced the one for the blower motor but to no avail. As previously stated, I have read many post and studied under the hood of my car. I cannot find anything that may house a strip fuse. I also switched out a spare CCU and nothing changed.

Does anyone have anyone have any other suggestions? Anyone have a picture of the strip fuse and its location? All assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ron, Since you don't mind any opinion, I think your fan motor/regulator is not working. W123 uses resistor to govern fan speed. And you need to replace the fan and regulator at the same time.

The attachment that iluvjeasus has shown is just the connector for the motor / strip fuse, along with the regulator. The actual strip fuse is located on the opposite side of the motor, in the fresh-air inlet of the fan-motor housing. (It looks like a long spring). It's rare that these fail. The fact that your problem appears intermittent would indicate that the CC controller is not making good connections in certain positions.

Today I had a guy look at it, and he discovered that there is NO power at the number #8 fuse (blower motor, and etc). He jumped the fuse and the blower came on. But after running for a few minutes the line became hot. He is going ot investigate further on line.

1. So is the fresh area under the dash? What is the best way to access it?
2. I didn't understand what was said about replacing the fan and etc?
3. I also State previously, that I had switch out the CCU with a spare that I had (Good spare) and nothing changed......

Now it sounds like the blower bearing has started to freeze up. This will cause your latest symptoms.

The fresh-air duct is at the top of the evaporator housing, where it connects to the heater box just under the air inlets in front of the windshield. The only way I've ever had access to it is when the whole unit is out of the car - dash removed, of course. But check out the blower first; it's a more-likely cause and easy to change.
