Service times on newer Benzes.

I just called to get the 30K service done on my "new" 07, and the service advisor told me the old service schedules are gone. He said all service is diagnostic driven and I can typically expect about a $150 bill for service now. The last 90K service on the 400E was over $900. So what happens now,,, do you only go in for service when the car tells you to ?

www.mbusa.com has the maintenance schedules of all models available for viewing.

Looks like they now have 10,000 mile intervals between services:

http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/#/servPrtsMaintenance/

At the bottom of the page is a link where you can download your maintenance manual.

From 1998-2008 MB used a flexable service system.....very bad idea!

Starting in 2009 they went back to a "good" normal service schedule.
I would base MY services on the 2009 system if I owned any of the 98-08 cars.

Actually, FSS went away before that. My '08 C300 uses the 10K oil change schedule (with fleece filter) and I think even the '07s did the same. And of course the free service during the warranty period disappeared also.

Officially, 2009 was the year that ALL MBUSA imported models went back to scheduled services.

Here is the flexible service sheet for the 2008 W204 c-class.

You will notice that nowhere on those pages is the term FSS mentioned. It was then renamed the MB Maintenance system with fixed oil change intervals among other things.

My C300 does not have the old FSS system.

Looking at the MBUSA website and the Owner's Manuals back to 2001, the last year that Flexible Service System was mentioned was 2003. From 2004 model year on, the oil change interval is to be every 10K miles. Approved synthetic oil, of course, although I didn't see that mentioned but we know it's true.

From 2003 on SOME models..that was FSS+ or ASSIST +

FSS started in 1998 (MBUSA) and ended in 2008.

ONLY from 2009 did the oil change services go to a 10K mileage!

Why don't you go the MBUSA website and look at the owners manual for 2004 just as I did. I'm talking about US market C-Class which is what I looked at.
