Window, driver's rear - 1986 420SEL

When I picked up this 1986 420SEL project car, the driver's side rear window didn't work; actually there was nothing inside the door (except the switch was in place, but not fully wired in).

I have now fully restored the window to working condition.

But only from the front.

I can make the window go up and down with the (dismantled, cleaned and fully operational) rear window switch in between the front seats. Activating the actual rear door switch does nothing. I have checked the obvious - the rear window disable switch. The passenger side window works fine from the back.

Any thoughts? What am I missing?

Regards,
Simon

If the switch in the door works in the front, check the wiring on around the switch itself. Maybe you missed something (I always do).

I tried all 5 of the similar switches I had but none worked...

Not the switches.

It's time to break out a multimeter and start testing. Is all the wiring for the switch in place for the rear? If the switch was in place but wasn't wired in, what else could be in its place and not wired in. Check all wiring going to and from the rear window switch. Is the switch in the rear getting power?
