Lights Flicker

I would check the fuses, if they are aluminum replace them with the newer copper barrel fuses. Corrosion makes the system have gremlins. Also pull the gage panel out disconnect the ground and clean then replace.

Check the battery ground at the base of the passenger side of the rear seat.

If that checks out have the charging system checked for over-charging.

Just pull straight out.

Bend a wire coat hanger to make a small L, make 2 of these and put one on either side of the cluster. Turn the L's inward towards the cluster and and make sure it catches the lip of the cluster.

When both sides feel firm, wiggle that sucker out. It's only held in by friction.

If it is adjustable, put the steering wheel all the way back and down before you start. Don't insert the key into the ignition with either cluster cable disconnected (if you disconnect it). There is at least one ground point behind there, so it seems like you're going in the right direction.
