300CE starting issues
 

My car ('92 300CE) with 187,000 miles refuses to start sometimes. Hot or cold it just doesn't want to turn over. All I hear is a "clicking" sound when key is turned. It does it intermittently not all the time.

Where would one start to look. It has new plug wires, rotor, cap, plugs, filters, etc...

Any ideas would be helpful.

Update-

It seems that my son has said it died once when he was in a "drive thru" and could not get it started right away. He had to push it out of the lane and waited about 10 minutes then it would start.

first i would check and clean your battery and starter connections

after doing that and found none were loose and no excessive corrosion, i'd replace the starter/solenoid

Ok, maybe it could be the starter, but would the starter have anything to do with it when it was running and it quit??

I check the battery connects again.

How about the "Crank position sensor"?
 

I had this problem 2 years ago with a 300e. After looking and looking for the problem (by a less than expert Mercedes Mechanic), one of the guys at the dealer suggested that it might be the Crank Position Sensor. Changed it out, and never had a problem again

I must be brain dead tonight. It was not a person at the dealer, it was someone on this fine info site. He said it could be Crank Position Sensor, I changed it, and from there on I had no trouble with the car. Simple fix, but hard to figure out.

Crank position sensor? Isn't that for a diesels??

What is a another term for this for DIY?

The EPC refers to it as "Position Sender Unit, EZL". Everyone else calls it the crank (or crankshaft) position sensor. P/N 002-153-90-28.
