1995 c280 Fuel pump

I changed my filter because my car was running ruff at idle.Thought it was a air filter or the fuel filter after changing the fuel filter the car wont start.I disconnected the filter and turned the key on no fuel was comming out but it did run at first it trickled then stopped.I'm not sure if this is bad or not does this pump run all the time. Thanks

Ok I guess I lost the prime on the pump.I have no fuel from the pump or the tank have a lil less than half a tank.No fuel from the lines going into the pump plus no fuel from the tank..is there a check valve preventing fuel from the tank.
