w124 will only start in neutral?????
:mad:hello i have a 95 E 320 wagon. I will only start in neutral. Everything works in park (ie , radio, lights, windows etc) but will not even crank in park. What is the problem here??
|
Neutral safety switch.
Try wiggling the shift lever in park while trying to start. If it won't go, it definitely sounds like a NSS. |
check the bushings arent falling apart and junky. The switch could be fine but if its not going into park fully then wont work. But keep in mind the nss

Replace the Neutral Safety Switch and get the shifter aligned. It's a cheap fix.

how to fix myself
can anyone give me a how to to fix the nss myself and the bushings Pictorial would help;)
|
Very tight quarters to work in. The shifter bushings can be a bear to install. Easily done by a qualified independent MBZ mechanic. Worth every dime to get the NSS and bushings done by a pro.

The NSS is a 20minute job once the car is on ramps/jackstands. BTDT on my '94 E320.

now wont start in neutral either
guys now it wont even start in neutral position? everything else still works still the NSS??

Yup.. get the switch replaced..

I had the same issue on my 94 e320. I bypassed the NSS by putting a jumper cable a little bit above the gas pedal (I guess u can say almost on the transmission tunnel) and the car started fine until I replaced the NSS. I had found the directions and even a pic of where to put the jumper on this site
