ok, thanks! Keep us/me posted on the performance after replacing the spring. What do you mean by flared? It is slow to engage?

I replaced my spring last Friday and after two short trips no more flaring. I currently have a CEL due to a defective driver side cat. I currently have one on order. Due to this problem my car is a bit sluggish so when I gave it full throttle it didn't slam into gear but due to the bat cat problem I cannot safely say if the new spring has solved this problem.

I checked all the springs in the valve body and all are fine. I also changed all fluid, including in the torque converter. Still same problem. Slams into 3rd and 4th over 3000 rpm or so. No check engine lights. I am completely stumped...

My original spring looked fine, if you looked real close you could see that the coils in the center were spaced further apart then the ends of the spring. I also reused the same trans fluid since I had changed it 20K miles ago and I wanted to see if the flaring stopped due to the spring and not because of new fluid. I did however clean the pan magnet and pan out.

If it was me I would have changed the spring since you went through the trouble of dropping the pan and pulled the plate off.

Ditto. My spring was fine on the ends but irregularly spaced in the middle. Some coils were wide apart and others were closer together. You really ought to replace it while you're in there already.

Sorry guys, forgot to say I replaced the spring as well.

So, new oil (8-9 lts), new spring, checked all the springs, replaced the plug adapter, check the transmission module, everything fresh and looking good BUT, still slams into 3rd and 4th 90% of the time above 2500 to 3000 rpm. I suppose I need to bring it in and have them check the adaptation values. No codes, no other problems. Same problem whether shifting manually or not. Arghh.

Yup, time to get the adaptations scanned. Sorry. Sounds like you tried...
