Compression Test on Cold Engine?

I've read through the posts, and I know that ideally you want to do a compression test while the motor is warm. I just got done swapping in a replacement motor into my car (bought the car from a guy that threw a rod on the last motor) and am having trouble getting it to start. It cranks well and even started for a second, just wont fire up.

Long story short I'm going to do a compression test but the motor will have to be cold. I know that I want all the cylinders to be within 10% of each other, but what number range should I hope for?

wrong numbers

The thermal expanison of metal is why you do it warm. The numbers you will get be close the minium spec or out of spec instead of doing it when the engine is warm
