Srs Light On

I just replaced my steering wheel with a new burlwood steering wheel. After I replaced it,and connected the air bag, the SRS light came on the dash. Does the SRS light need to be reset at the dealer or can I do it myself. The car is a 2000 S500.

Only dealers can scan the newer SRS systems, or an independent with the "Star diagnosis" system. NOT any way for a DIYer to clear codes!

I was gonna post the same question MB Doc... I've got an 86 560 SEL and the SRS light comes on lately when its cold outside and once it warms up and I'm rolling it goes out but last night as I was detailing the interior, I noticed that in the glovebox door was a warning sticker that said replace 9/96...obviously the previous owner didn't do this so is there a danger of the bag deploying and about ???? does it usually cost (figuratively speaking) to replace if not by a DIY er because I'll have to park my baby if that's the case. Thanks!;)

RE:86 560 SEL SRS Light

I have an 88 560 sel and my srs light came on at random while driving. Turns out to be dirty contact on the fingers on the steering wheel that connect the air bag to the rest of the car. Cleaning them solved the problem. Maybe can be a quick fix for you.
