s320 engine mounts

Hello Everyone,

I own a 1994 s320 and I am replacing the engine mounts. Where is the correct place to position the jack to lift the engine to provide the clearance to slide the old part out and the new part in?

Thanks in advance,

The correct place to lift the engine is the oil pan. Place a wide piece of wood such as a 2x6 between the floor jack and oil pan to distribute the weight from the engine over the entire bottom of the pan. Then as you are jacking it up be sure to carefully monitor that nothing on the engine is preventing it from moving up, such as the fan hitting the shroud. You should then be able to just take out the old mounts and put the new ones in.

Thanks for your reply Mercedes Guy. I was guessing that placing a wooden board under the oil pan was the way to go, but I was concerned about the cast aluminum pan being able to hold up under the stress put on it by the partial weight of the engine.

Thanks again for your prompt and detailed response.

Warm Regards,
