Oil Cooler on '84 300D

Does anyone know how to repair a busted fitting on an oil cooler? The cooler itself is fine and I don't want to have to buy a new one (expensive) if repair is an option at all. The threads are all but completely gone, but the filling is still intact on the cooler. Any help would be appreciated. EWG

Well, here goes nothin'
I'm not sure what the fitting looks like, but if you can find a coupling for it that will "screw" over the stripped end and have
tha same threading that you need on the opposite end, then epoxy the coupling onto the stripped end. I don't know if welding it would be possible. Whatever method, make sure it is leak proof.
Realize that you are dealing with keeping vital oil in the engine
and any flub may reult in a dead engine.
$5000+= or $100+= for a new part!!

Good Luck!

While doing this repair, never lose sight of the fact that if something blows on the oil cooling system you could lose the entire engine. Proceed with care and caution.

Good luck,

We just had someone on the forum lose their 240D engine due to a catastrophic leak at the oil cooler fittings. This is not an area to play around.

It might be better to find someone parting out a vehicle and get a good used one. I can't imagine they are "hot" items in demand, so you should be able to get a good deal.
