Intake gasket and Sealant
When I apply the new intake gaskets I have, is it acceptable to apply a very thin layer of RTV sealant to the non-beaded side to enable it to stick in place and make installing things easier?
I can only imagine a layer of RTV enhancing the seal of the gasket. |
On most intake gaskets, no sealer is required & can cause issues.
On some intake gaskets there is a bead of sealer made into the gasket. If you have an area around the coolant passages that are rough or have corrosion, then a very light bead of RTV there would be OK. |
Thanks Doc, for the response, I was thinking more along the lines of getting the gasket to stay put rather than sealing. I guess a bit around the bolt holes should be sufficient. too bad it's not like a SB Chev and the gaskets come with locating dowels.
