Brake Pads
I have to replace my front pads on a 1990 300TE tomorrow...I have the parts lined up but have never even taken the front wheel off the thing....anything I should look out for? Thanks...

Just the usual, make sure the rotor doesnt have any grooves in it. Check the bearings to make sure there is not too much slop. If you are real carefull with the wear sensors, you may be able to reuse them, but nice to have a couple spares in case you break any in removing.

Grab the wheel and shake it hands @ 12 and 6, 9 and 3 to see if there is any play. Check all bushings on the control arms, and the bump stop on the strut. Just the normal on these cars. As said above, most times you can re-use the wear sensor, but they can brittle if it is really old so have some spares. They are only like $1/each so not a big deal to carry spares in a parts box anyway.
Make sure to apply anti-squeal and have fun! :) Oh and also make sure to tighten the wheels in a star pattern and tighten up lugs using correct torque settings to avoid future potential rotor warping (110nm) |
Mercedes use lug bolts and not lug nuts.
Check to see whether your toolkit contains the "pin" used to hang the wheel when remounting it. It makes it all a lot easier. |
