1987 560sl high idle fixed?
Itseems that the high idle issue was fixed (with all your help), but it stll idles a little high, like 800-900 rpm, whereas before all this at idled at about 600 rpm. I re-soldered the solder joints on the idlespeed control module, removed and cleaned the idle speed solenoid, repaired some suspect looking vaccum lines, and it went from about 2,000 rpm down to 800-900 rpm. Maybe it was originally supposed to idle at this speed to begin with? any thoughts or ideas?
also, this car has a barracuda alarm system on it (on there when I bought it), Ican't find any website for "barracuda car alarms" I wonder if they are still in existance. The date on the alarm "brain" says 1999. Thanks again, Dwight Daymen (ddayme) |
do you think that this would bring my idle in my 16 valve down from 2000rpms as well???
800rpms sounds about right for an idle. i know thats where my car is supposed to be. could you send me pics of what you did please. |
I tried to load some pictures, but was asked for a URL, wasn't given the option to load from my computer. What I did was remove the idle speed control module, located behind the glove box, and went over all the solder connections, then I removed the idle control solenoid and cleaned it out with carb. cleaner, then checked all the vaccum lines I could see (replaced a rubber connector on one), and that was about it. All these were suggestions from other members that had the same problem. There is a link titled "high idle hell" from one member that goes into detail about everything that should be checked. If you type in high idle hell in the search box, I believe you will find it.
If I ever find out how to post pictures I will do so. |
Dwight, files (including images) can be uploaded from your computer from the "Additional Options" section below the message area, then click on the "Manage Attachments" button. Voila! You'll still be limited to some pretty small file sizes, but at least they can reside on your hard drive, instead of a website somewhere.

Thanks for the tip, now all I have to do is take pictures! but, the high idle came back this morning (1800 rpm), and now I'm back to the same problem. The things I did lasted 3-4 days, then suddenly this morning it started. I don't know what else to do, maybe the same things again, maybe I missed a solder joint or something--arrgg!
