Yaw Rate sensor. Front tire locked up at speed

Could any one here tell me the location of the Yaw rate sensor. The other night on the freeway my right front tire locked up for a second scared the crud out of me. Had codes pulled and it said Brake switch on one code another said Yaw Rate sensor. A picture of one would be nice.

Quoted part was $500.

My car is a 2001 SLK 320.

I think it is in the trunk. Not sure though.

YAW rate sensor on R170 chassis is located on the tunnel behind the center console next to the parking brake handle.

thtguy 11-12-2009 10:12 AM

once you replace it, it has to be calibrate at shop.

mbdoc 11-12-2009 10:24 AM

Only on Rare occasions does that replacement require the ESP being forced into a test drive mode.

Chris A 11-12-2009 12:21 PM

I think Im correct on this. There is a Lateral motion sensor and a yaw rate sensor. Both are located on the tunnel under the center console.

Chris A 11-12-2009 02:13 PM

Ok I see both of them now. Would it be ok to get a used one? That little box is very expensive.

thtguy 12-17-2009 12:20 AM

so does anyone have a part number for the yaw rate sensor? does peachparts sell? I searched on both sites for yaw and no parts returned.

Chris A 12-17-2009 06:56 AM

Ok this part costs a lot. $500 to $600..

I went to a wrecking yard because the repair shop said it was very rare for one of these to go bad..

Based on that I felt secure buying a used one. I bought mine used for $85.00

parts planet
sacramento
800 783 4911 they ship..

Took less then 15 minutes to replace.. If you have a R170 mail me at arlt@comcast.net and i will step you through it. Nothing to reset or adapt just plug and hold on...

it really seems like this is a common occurance. I was even talking to an MB service advisor and he said he was shocked this had not been addressed with a service campaign.
