Headlamp Indicator Supposed to be Lit?
Directly above the headlamp switch, there are symbols for where you turn the knob (ie, parking lamps, headlights, fog lights, L/R standing lamps). Should these be lit? I'm thinking I might have a burnt out bulb...
Isn't there a bulb behind there? |
There is no provision for a bulb on our '95 C280.
|
I didn't know there was a bulb on mine (93 W124) until I went to replace the headlight switch for another problem...upon removing it, there was a wire with the bulb attached to it...so I replaced it and VOILA! Now I have backlighting for the headlight switch!
Curious why the C-class wouldn't have one... |
Really! Thanks for the tip GBenz.
I'm sure I have one! WHy would I not? Is this light on all of the time? If so, maybe this is why it's burnt out. ;) |
David, if you find provision for a bulb, post a reply. The 124 has one (we had a 300TE), but I could not find any provision for one on our 202.
|
The bulb that is in my switch only illuminates the orange center dot when the rear fog light is on. The CD does not show any other bulb for the 86-95 E class.
|
Mine has both a rear foglight indicator, and a backlighting bulb for the switch functions. Ironically, the backlighting only comes on when the parking lights or headlights are turned on.
|
400E,
If you have achnace can you let me know wher the bulb is for the back lighting? |
I checked the CD manual and it does not have any bulb provision ecept for the one that illuminates the orange dot to indicate that the rear foglight is on. If anyone can help me with finding where the other bulb is, that would be great.

CJ,
I haven't played around with the switch or light bulb personally but my Haynes manual says there is a bulb within the headlight switch which can be replaced. The headlight switch needs to come out -- maybe someone who's done that before can help with how to go about it. Steve |
Well isn't that dumb!
