CPS Crankshaft position sensor had oil on it - M112 W203
Hi all,
My sister has a 2001 C320 with about 78k miles on it. Yesterday her car wouldn't start and it had a code set for a bad CPS. Anyway, I went to replace it and when I pulled the old one out, there was some oil on it. I put in the new one regardless as she needs to get around, but I believe there should not be oil on the CPS. Is there a seal that is possibly broken? Is oil getting into the harness and leaking THROUGH the CPS? My dad's M271 has the problem with the leaky cam sensors and oil getting into the harness, but luckily we caught it early on. Is there a similar problem on the M112s? I searched but didn't see too much info except on how to replace it. Anyone have any idea? TIA |

Addendum... There was an oil leak from her passenger side valve cover about 5k miles earlier. It's that famous leak on the "extra" cover on the M112s where the coilpacks bolt to. I resealed it with a sealant and no oil from there now so I can rule that out. The oil was pretty fresh looking though so I don't think it's from any residual old stuff there.
