Picture request from W126 M117 motor

Hi all,

My indie mechanic seems to have omitted a part or two after re-assembling the accelerator linkage. Given the amount of work they did, a missing part here or there is to be expected.

Can somebody pretty please take a picture of the accelerator linkage assembly where the pivot sticks out of the firewall and where the linkage attaches to the engine hoist loop?

I think there is a spring or something missing because the pivot is moving around all over the place unhampered, and there is a LOT of play where the plastic ball meets the engine hoist loop. I temporarily fixed it by putting a bunch of washers in there to take up the slop, but clearly it is not supposed to be there in the first place.

I am trying to figure out what part they forgot to put back in so I can ***** at them with some degree of confidence.

Thanks so much!

Tinypanza,
It's hard to see where I believe the problem is but maybe you can make out these pictures. I believe the spring is missing at the firewall end of the rod. You can see it in one of the photos.

You guys rock!

Thank you so much for taking the time to do that for me.

From the pictures, it looks as if there is a spring over the rod right where it comes out of the firewall. If that's the case, then I have found my missing part!

Thanks VERY much!

Okay, I think I have figured out that the missing piece is the spring (red arrow) which is causing lateral slop at the pivot point (blue circle).

In case anybody cares, my temporary fix was to put a stack of washers between the little spring clip and the hoist loop (green arrow). Took out most of the slop, and made the car drivable again. This may be useful info for somebody who had that spring break and needs a temporary solution.

Thanks again so much for helping me figure this out!

Cheers!
