What are the differences between the current European and U.S. models?
 

I know that back in the '70s and '80s there were differences in the engines, lights, bumpers, etc. Are there any major differences between the European and U.S. models that are currently being produced? I'm curious because in the European delivery program it stresses that U.S. residents will receive a U.S. spec vehicle through the program.

All I can think of are the speed limiters and maybe some available options. I know my 140 is limited to 130mph, and I assume the European vehicles don't have any speed limiters. Does anyone know of any other differences between the current European and U.S. models?

headlights, enigne control units, tailgate / trunk lid (for license plate recess), VIN number style, radio, warning triangle

Europeans have choice of more "stripped" versions than Americans and at the same time the accessory catalog is "stripped" for Americans. All kinds of cargo management options for wagon owners, for example.

Americans cannot get trailer hitch option unless they buy an Alabama car--which aren't part of European delivery, obviously. (I doubt this will continue the case when the C-class becomes an Alabama car ... trailer hitches, that is.)

Other countries obviously get more engine options, including both smaller and larger (diesels).

There is no SAT radio anywhere but North America.

Believe it or not, the tires fitted to USA-market diesel E-class really aren't available anywhere but USA. Michelin MXV4+ The rest of the world doesn't compromise handling in favor of the holy grail of 40K tire mileage.

Yes, all those 1970s 450SL owners that replaced original equipment Michelin XWX V-rated tires with Sears Roadhandlers convinced MBUSA to give up fitting performance tires for USA market--this is reason for speed limiter. AMGs are the exception, of course.
