Two Brake rotor replacement questions.
Just replaced pads and rotors on the front of my 1991 300te 4matic, quite an easy job I must say. Here are my two questions:
1. Regarding the floating calipers, how much float is permissible and is there a danger of them being setup incorrectly. 2. Regarding brake pads, how come when I buy a box of four I only get two replacement bolts? Is it because you only replace the bottom one and swing the caliper around the top one? Merry Christmas, J. |
Yes, that's the reason.

As for the float, that comes from the fact that the pistons retract a slight amount due to the rubber seal in the piston bore.
Dont't forget to use brake grease on the pins/bolts and spray the rubber bits with silicone. parts places have small packets of the proper grease to use on the sliding mechanisms. |
