Cold won't start - heater starts

My 380 SE won't start in Cold just keeps cranking, sprayed starting fluid in it, no luck thought it was a spark problem-- Then I put a heater under the hood for a couple of hours and it fired right up So my Question is is there a cold weather sensor or something that is not allowing to fire until it warms up? Any thoughts? Thanks for any help

From my understanding by putting a heater below the hood you just heated the engine compartment and all what is in it. this make the cold start functionn unnecessary.

yeah, but is not always convient to put a heater under the hood. I was wondering if this is a problem anyone was familiar with and had any solutions. I just tried this morning, left heater on about 2 hours, was closer to starting, but still NO start -- will try again in another couple of hours

Check your engine temp sensors. If your coolant temp sensor is faulty and telling your engine that it's warm (when it's not), it'll never engage the cold start function. If you heat everything up before you start it, then it should start up becuase it doesn't need the cold-start function.

Exactly how hot does the heater get the engine, anyway?

And to answer your question, no, there isn't a "cold weather sensor that won't allow the engine to fire until it warms up".

After all, the engine has to start and run in order to warm up.

Check the coolant temp sensor(s) and if good, proceed to check the cold-start injector. If no luck there, the fuel computer is likely suspect. See if you are getting 12v to the cold start injector when cranking cold.

I left heater on for 2 days tried 2 start 4 or 5 times no luck. still just kept cranking, must not have anything to do with heater

Check the basics - air, fuel & spark.
