Talking Help Please, 1988 420sel keeps dying

Hi everyone, Just wanted to say thanks in advance. Also I did use the search button before I posted this. First off, I don't know if this has anything to do with it but the other day we got like two feet of snow and and I had to drive threw it so there was allot of snow on the undercarriage of the car. Well today I go to drive to work and I go outside to start the car and warm it up. Well it started fine and I went back inside to finish getting ready. Well I noticed the car was not running after about 5 minutes. I thought that was strange because it has never done this in the past. Well I get back in and attempt to go to work and it dies again. It seems the longer I let it sit the longer it will run. If it dies and then you start it up it will only run for about 10-15 seconds. if you wait a minute or 2 it will run for about 45 seconds. I noticed also that my RPM gage goes a little funky when it does this but none of the other gages go crazy. I tired taking of the fuel cap to see if maybe it was a plugged vent but that did not help at all. Next on the list is to check the fuel filter. I let is sit for a few minutes and started it and went to listen to the fuel pumps and they sound as they always do. Has anyone else ran into this problem or might know what I should do?
Thanks
Kevin
