insurance coverage - what do u have?
I have 1986 560SEL w/ 78K miles. Have about 10K in it (unfortunately had to have heads pulled etc, but not due to timing chain). Have just basic liability insurance coverage. What do others do? Have more coverage?

I have two policies - my newer cars are through Travelers and then I have a collector policy with Haggerty on which are the w126, my new w123, and the CJ7. On the Haggerty policy, I have full coverage with a $15000 agreed value.

Different states require different basic/minimum amounts.
In these days of tough economics, it's often common for people to "drive naked" or with the minimum amount of insurance required to register the car. That makes it even more important for people to have UIM (Under Insured Motorist) and UM (Uninsured Motorist) coverage. There's a good chance that if you're seriously injured by someone in an accident, they may not have sufficient insurance. |
1987 420SEL with State Farm. Full everything coverage, $280/yr

I use my governments Insurance company, SGI, I have $700 Deductable and $1,000,000 liability insurance, but if I make a claim for a broken window it'll get written off. I can get a package policy that reduces my deductable to 100, 50 or $0 dollars. but the prices of these packages are pricey...I pay 55.00 a month. |
I run both of mine under Liability only, California, 21 year male old driver, no accidents, with AAA and I pay $71/mo.
Every state is so different that it is difficult to compare by any way shape or form. |
Nationwide - for both the Mercedes-Benz, and the diesel motorcoach.
Had been with GEICO since 1991. Had to switch - GEICO's rates were too high, once I did a some rate comparisons. |
USAA=Cheap Insurance
I am a 22 year old male and only pay 23 dollars a month per vehicle.I am currently with USAA, I was with State Farm paying a little over 80 per month for each vehicle. Huge difference,Im so glad I switched!

everyone's insurance situation is different. i mostly wondering how many people have collision coverage on their older MBs. i just have liability on my 560SEL and 300SD. I have five cars, 2001 Town & Country Limited (full coverage), 95 Jag XJ6 (liability only), 96 Subaru Outback (liability only, and primary vehicle for 21 yo college student son), 84 300SD (liability only), and 86 560SEL (liability only, but State Farm agent put my 18 yo college student son on that car). I pay about $280 - 300 per month for insurance but it includes my homeowners insurance and a excess liability policy. Haven't looked at what the actual car insurance costs lately.
Again, was mostly curious whether people fully insured their older MBs. |
We had a '83 SD with full coverage. It was hit in the rear, totaling the car. The other insurance company offered $1000 or we could sue. Our coverage paid about $3000 minus the deductible. A few months later the deductible came in the mail. Your insurance company will sue on your behalf in situations like this, and the policy on that car paid for itself -- at another recalcitrant insurance company's expense.

I need to get a better rate on the E320 cabrio than what geico is showing me. I want UIM/UM, coverage so I am safe.

I just have Liability, Uninsured motorist, and Comprehensive on my '95 E320. Costs me about $300/ year with State Farm.
Sadly, had an accident earlier this month and have no coverage for collision. $2000++ will come out of my pocket for the mishap. I would recommend full coverage unless you have an emergency fund of many, many thousands of dollars. About another $110 per year would have completely covered me with a $500 deduct. Hope this helps, learn from my mistakes unless you keep a serious savings account at the ready. -GH |
