Best transmission fluid for 722.3?

What would you guys recommend?

I have heard both Amsoil and Redline are good. Any others or recommendations? I just pretty much want the best as I want this transmission to last as long as possible.

Should I go synthetic? I am pulling the transmission so the front seal will be new.

Any Dexron product will do fine, synthetic is better for the long run.

I use Coastal semi sync. atf. Recomended for Benz.Cheap as regular atf.Autozone.

Dude, Coastal sucks. How can you recommend that stuff. That's like Super Tech from Wal-Mart. The OP was asking about the best lol.
Just get some Redline and be done with it.
Oldsinner, are you truly running 20 psi boost in your frankenbenz? 13 psi MAX with an OM617. Poor car lol

oldsinner111 01-25-2010 11:00 AM

On cold days I run 26psi been doing it over a year. But when temps warm its 15 psi. Specs. is for 15 psi.I lucked out and have a European injection pump. She never quits full power till max boost.I will add a jeep liberty turbo, and intercooler soon.

Do I need to do anything special before converting over to synthetic in regards to draining?

I debated about this one, and I decided to go with Redline. I wondered if the cost was worth it over plain Dextron lll. After changing, the shift quality was more immediate and positive. My car had 173k. I'm glad I went with synthetic. I changed the fluid that had only 15k on it so it wasn't that old.

If you are going to Drive it Hard I'd run B&M trick shift.. If it's going to run Hard for extended periods (ie, on track) I'd run the synthetic.

This stuff makes those clutches and bands Grab Nicely!

If you are pulling the trans, I would replace more than the front seal...

I am doing the rear main seal and putting in the K1 shift kit, other than that I see no reason to open the transmission up as it has less than 100k on it with fluid changes on time throughout its life and no other issues. If I open her up to "just" do one thing, it will end up with me doing everything because I am like that...

I think I will go with Redline ATF. As I said above, any specific procedures needed when switching from regular to synthetic?

I did not say to go inside of it.

All of the other external seals I would replace as they are 20+ years old and been heat cycled many, many times. Servo o-rings, seal for throttle valve cable, etc. ATF leaks are a pain in the ass and you can counter them by being proactive by replacing the rest of the seals that always leak while the trans is out of the vehicle.

Install the Superior Transmission kit, far more indepth than the K1 kit.

As I pull it off I will replace them all.

Any more info on this "superior" kit? What exactly does it have? Also where can I find it?

Just trying to help ya out. :) The leaking 722.3 is all to common for us.

http://www.superior-transmission.com/ they have two kits for the 722, one Diesel one Gasser. I paid about $65 for the one that I am installing in my 300sel. They have recently revamped their site so you will need to email or call.

Thanks for the links.

Hmm interesting...So you think it is worth doing it then?

Hit Man X 01-25-2010 10:31 PM

Big time, takes the K1 kit to an entire other level.

The biggest purchase point for me was to be rid of that overly sharp 1-2 upshift on the I6 cars.
