300E 1991 need to change melted fuse box
Can someone please give me direction on how to replace the melted fuse box on a 1991 W124 300E. I have new one coming and do not understand how to release the wires from the panel to install the new one. I can get the top and second cover off and can release the box from the chassis but how do I remove the wires and connect them to the new fuse box???
Thanks! JRR |
Those are screwed on the back of the box. What melted? The a/c should have been moved to an external wire.
That sounds like a hard job- you need to be VERY careful in moving all the wires. Take many clear digital pictures just in case.... M |
how did the fusebox get melted?

Melted Fuse Box
I just received the new (used) box in the mail and see the screws on the back. Guess I will have to replace them one by one. Will I have enough play in the wires to turn the box over?
The box melted in 2-3 fuse holders. I read a few other threads here and it appears to be a problem with non ceramic fuses getting too hot. I believe there are replacement plastic fuses in the holder when I received the car (just bought it). I will replace them with Mercedes original. If anyone has any other ideas please advise. What did you mean by the A/C wire being external Thanks...JRR |
