89 300ce strange noise from blower motor area
ok,i have a strange noise coming from what sounds like the blower motor area,i shut off the climate control and the noise stays, does the blower motor always stay on?all i can think is that the blower motor has a bad bearing,or it has lost a balancing weight and its scratching the blower fan.

Is it a squealing noise, or does it sound like something got into the fan blades?
When I was working on my 300SD, I found insulation had gotten ingested from somewhere and was stuck in the squirrel cage fan, as well as having dry bearings. If it's just the squealing noise, try dribbling some ATF into them (down the blade of a screw driver works fairly well, once the motor is on the work bench...) |
'Ave a look here...

This is the Climate Control Troubleshooting Marathon: http://www.ps2cho.net/downloads/MB%20CD/W124/w124CD1/Program/Climate/83-604.pdf you've got a tiny little electric fan that pulls air across the Temperature Sensor (Near the Inside rear view mirror in the Roof of the headliner) for the HVAC system. The Electric Fan Motor lives behind the glove box(AND "Pulls" air from a tube connected to the Sensor in the Roof) The Sensor fan runs whenever the key is ON and the Climate Control Console is set to ANYTHING other than OFF.[Far Right-hand Push-button] OR (BAD THOUGHT) your CCU [Climate Control Unit] is "on the Fritz" and not shutting off the Main HVAC Blower Fan as it should. IF your Main HVAC Blower is still running... You'll be able to hear it from the front of the Windshield [with the engine OFF]@ the fresh air intakes (@ the base of the Mono Wiper) outside the car much more easily as a diagnostic tool. |
great i will open the hood and put my ear as close to the fresh air intakes, and listen for the blower motor running while the climate control is in the o off setting,if i hear the noise i will assume i need a new climate control unit.the noise is constant when the key is on,it never goes away, thanks for the input.if i find the blower motor making the noise,i mean what else could it be right?then i will oil the bearings,is it true that the blower motor can only be accesed thru the underhood wiper area? and not from under the dash board area.

There is a 3 cavity connector (red, black and yellow wires) under the hood behind the area of the brake booster that goes to the blower and it's speed controller. If you unplug it, no power will get to the blower. If the noise disappears you'll know the source.

If you do find that it is your push button unit and if it is made by MK (Kammerer), then it is likely cracked solder connections. Check and re-solder all of the switch connections as well as the temperature potentiometer.
Bosch units have bad connections at the voltage regulator caused by excessive heat. |
now that definatley helps me to diagnose the noise i will go check that connector and unplug it,thanks for the input.
